HARVEY - NOT CHILD’S PLAY Houston, we have a problem ~ where the throngs of children played, only possessions remain in giant heaps - mattresses, furniture and hefty bags brimming. Two boys step over threshold to survey the damage to their home, for the first time, since the storm’s surge. Several boxes labeled Hurricane, contain fans. All is calm in aftermath, ready for forward march, albeit months of reparations. Bare bones, as if in early stages of construction, with see-through walls. Boys in blue shirts, step into their room. Dad points out which ones were theirs. He asks them, “How do you feel?” And the simple answer, echoing from a child’s lips, stabs you in the chest, sucks the air, in vise-like vortex, “sad…” 9/25/2017

You have depicted the aftermath well in this poem Kim--the effect on children beyond words--but you did well--the ending says it all!!
