Harvest Wisdom

In the dying throes of Autumn's fading sun, When the cold of day invades old tempered blood, And the chatter of familiar sounds is long since gone, And with it lost, the sweet buds of May I once loved. I will fight back the memories of wasted youth, And drink what's left of life, a heart seasoned wrought, Cloaked secrets unveiled in an old man's dying truth, Spiralling towards Nature's womb, wishful I thought, Of summers dressed in copper crimson dance, Of freshly cut grass inhaled, carefree I lazed upon With speckled eyes a life unlived, to seize a second chance, To wind back time to the day I was newly born. A pearl of wisdom emerged from my mother's womb, The milk of mother's love suckled from her tender breast, Years nurtured in the bosom of each luminous waiting room, The hands of time breathing hope, Love's welcomed guest. To soar the skies, arms outstretched, that span the universe, And taste sweet nectar from Nature's now brimming cup, To thrill the eyes and ears, a life I had once in failure rehearsed, Glowing embers of Autumn's sun, relish, savour each flavoured sup.

It is not normal for me to visit new poets. And especially ones that are so good at rhyming, since I am not. But I broke my set rules and I'm glad. Loved this poem, so well executed. Good rhyme and alliteration plus wonderful imagery. Glad I visited.

Good Morning Victor, I too am glad you took the plunge and visited, regards the rhyming that's more fluke than ability, there are so many talented writers on this platform who are much more deserving of comment , nevertheless I do appreciate your kind and supportive words . Danny

a truly breathtaking poem and a sure contest winner (if you're entering the contest?) Oh to wind back time to the day I was newly born was such a powerful line as was 'the hands of time breathing hope, Love's welcomed guest." Your rhyme scheme and cadence was fluid and effective. I love your poetic voice and style. Best wishes with the contest, have a great week ahead, your poetess friend in Texas, Sara
