Song about how some try to cope with depression, some times unsuccessfully, without friends and family and sometimes medication to help them cope. To be read slowly, try to feel the tempo/rhythm.

Happy to be here

                                        Is there someone you know
                                         who's dark days only grow
And they can't say, they're happy to be here

When a bright, new day breaks
                                        but, they're afraid to awake
And they won't say they're happy to be here

And they can't say they're happy to be here

                                         There's a rainbow, it's true
                                           it's color's, fading hues
And they can't find any joy in living

And a bird when it sings
                                            doesn't mean anything
There's no meaning in their song of beauty

ooh and I feel bad for them......
ooh and I feel bad for them......

                                            And their friends, family
just want them to be free
but their thoughts, keep them enchained, in prison

When their hands and their feet
                                          have been bound endlessly
and their only companion is sorrow

And a new day is born
                                             but they feel so forlorn
and the voices just bellow with laughter

And they can't say their happy to be here

oooh and I feel bad for them
oooh and I feel bad for them

                                               Every day is a task
so they put on new masks
so that no one can see, they've been crying

Like the tears of a clown
                                             when no one is around
How can anyone know what they're feeling?

oooh and I feel bad for them
oooh and I feel bad for them

And they say there's a pill
                                             but they haven't the will
they say no pill, can fill, all their empty

So they live day to day
and they hope and they pray
Please forgive me God, for what I'm thinking

oooh and I feel bad for them
oooh and I feel bad for them

So you go the next day
want to wipe their tears away
but, you get there, far too late, to save them

oooh and I feel bad for them
oooh and I feel bad for them

                                        They just couldn't say,
                                                    they're happy
                                                             to
                                                             be
                                                           here!

Dear John, "Every day is a task so they put on new masks so that no one can see, they've been crying" perfectly said for the theme of this lyric. You make me want to try to write a lyric so bad! I don't think I can do it- well done once again! :)-luloo

Thanks Laura I'm sure you can do it, just pick a song you like, write out the existing lyrics, breaking them down to their syllable counts per line, then think of a theme that captures the feel of the song, then superimpose new lyrics to the structure of the old ones, see how easy! Give it a try it's great fun! Thanks for the visit.

John, this could be a RECORD. it really could! I love this lyrical approach to a topic that is close to many of us. I think many people know at least one very depressed person in their circle of friends or family. it's tragic. and yes, we can only feel sad sometimes.

It was a famous record, but with different words, my lyrics are totally different so the song is unrecognizable now, now to figure out how to come up with a melody to match the new lyrics. You would be shocked which song this was taken from soup mail if you want to know. Hint biggest hard rock ballad of all time.

Thanks Daniel, yeah,it's hard for many people just to make it through each day. I have a knack for empathetic writing, so not really an issue for me, but thanks for your concern. Cheers
