Happy Birthday, Dad
You gave me a name that I have worn for many a year;
A name spoken well of you to me that made me proud.
By your life example, you gave me dignity and self-respect.
You graciously extended to me ambition and individual initiative.
Why, dad, you even gave me baseball, radio, and 'the newspaper',
Tools of recreation and communication required of all mankind.
You did not have houses, monies, or lands to give or to leave to me;
But instead, you left a host of memories for me and our families.
You gave me more than enough to navigate the life with which I faced.
I know of no one of such an age, but you would be 116 years of age in 2021.
I do not remember the day, but I recall you were born in the month of April.
During WW 1, you were too young, and during WW 2, you were too old to help
Defend your country militarily. However, during the 30's and 40's, through farming, you helped to feed your fellow countrymen. History will not record
Your personal deeds, but be assured that I shall not allow your descendants to forget you nor your sacrifices. Happy birthday, dad.
