Many thanks to an awesome poet who kindly offered to critique my poem and assisted me with the meter - with wonderful people like this encouraging me I will continue to learn and grow as a poet

It's Halloween, that spooky time of year, when scary monsters prowl the streets all night. The costumes sometimes give us such a fright - our heads with trepidation fill with fear, but light the candles then they disappear. Young children's faces shining with delight, lit up by pumpkin lantern's glowing light; with bags of candy kids run off and cheer. Some teenage children take it all too far and play their tricks when they don't get a treat. I find smashed eggs upon my house and car, then I use language I should not repeat! Next year I'll have my front door just ajar and wear a white face pack and old bed sheet. 10~23~15 Italian Sonnet - abbaabba cdcdcd Contest: Mad as a Hornet Sponsor: John Lawless Entered into Halloween Contest Sponsored by Nayda Ivette Negron

In my youth there used to be kids throwing eggs and shaving cream fights....luckily I don't find it happening to much anymore. I love Halloween for the kids and costumes. There are set hours the kids can be out. Excellent Jan

Love it. We live inner city in one of the most violent cities in the U.S., but you know we never have any damage done on Halloween or any other night. Love, daver

Hey Jan, stopped by for a visit. This storyline does indeed speak to the dark side of Halloween - the tricks without the treats! Great writing as always and best wishes in this contest! Be Blessed, Neva

Love your poem Jan... I bet it was at this month last year when you were in Malta. Every year they knock on our door here..and I prepare some sweets..and make a hard bolied egg with an eye drawn on it to scare them a bit when they open the bag.. In certain places on the isle they throw eggs if you dnt give a treat but where i live are little ones with their mum that visit. Loved your write Jan.

as a black man it should be understood....we Live by the code of I WISH a m********* would....because if just one kid throws just one egg at me....well a well whooped ass is what they all would see....because I don't do the games so many parents play....by removing the child from the place he or she should always stay.....disciplined respect will serve us best....don't forget to use the belt or they will be like the rest....much liked this jan....;)

that's only because they think they have numbers on you....but I assure you if you snatch up one of them then the others will get the picture....I don't condone violence or child abuse but respect must be restored....;)

Sadly the teenagers can take it too far Eric and often the elderly are the target - i don't like Halloween - we will be away when it is on :-) hugs jan xx

Well done, Jan! Yes, you truly are learning and growing!:) Luckily nobody comes knocking on our door; Halloween is not that popular in our village...but watch out in Sliema:) Hugs // paul

We are away at halloween again this year - hope to find the house and car still as we left them but sadly the behaviour of some can make it very unpleasant especially for the elderly:-( hugs Jan xx
