I wrote this poem on behalf of my 92-year old aunt who was recently moved into a memory care facility. We visited her on Mother's Day. Although she says little, she made it clear to us how grateful she was for the kind care she is receiving. She wanted us to let the staff know how much she appreciated their respect and compassion. So, I penned this poem the other day and mailed it to the staff telling them that this poem reflected my aunt's unspoken feelings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Grateful for those who understand my faltering step and shaking hand… Grateful for those who know my ears today must strain to catch the things they say… Grateful for those who seem to know my eyes are dim, my mind is slow… Grateful for those with a cheery smile who stop to chat for a little while.. Grateful for those who make it known I'm loved, respected and not alone
Nice tribute to your aging aunt. I am pretty much in the same boat physically. Hope she enjoys the place and the staff appreciates your poem and thoughts.
