Grammy's Girl

I see her pretty little face
With a sweet smile as bright as gold.
I think about the days ahead.
It saddens me, I'm growing old.

I love that precious little girl
With all that dwells inside of me.
One day I know we'll have to part.
I beg of Time, so fleetingly,

To warp somehow and backward go,
So I could share more of her life.
She says "Grammy, never leave me".
That I must die fills her with strife.

She says"I want to go with you".
I tell her of the joys instead,
How one day she'll meet a man,
He'll love her so, and they will wed.

But Grammy's love is all she knows,
So I will leave her parts of me,
In photographs and work I do,
In love notes from my poetry.

I wrote it so she could understand it and read it to her and she liked it Andie. She is my world, a world her grandfather also shares! Thanks Andrea. ;)

And though your gift is from the heart she may not understand When Grammy's time has come to part she'll always hold your hand. Hand write them all Connie, one day they will become her most valuable possession.

Thank you Jeannie. I do write them by hand first, and shall have to begin saving them for her in a folder. I have some I have not shared at Poetry Soup or anywhere and may do a children's poetry book one day. :)

Why do you think they call them Grand Mothers. Love the sentiment here, Connie. Peace my dear and Mahalo:)

Lovely, Connie. I never had any grandchildren nor even a daughter, but I have a dear girl I call my never-had-a-daughter. If she has children I will love them too, just as you describe so sensitively. Love, Dave

I had a dear surrogate father who was like that. He had two sons and always wanted a daughter so he took me under his wing. Sadly he passed on in 1974 after I had my first daughter. Thank you for your nice comment Dave. Love, Connie
