An expert in the law met Jesus, though his question, "Who's my neighbor?" was to try to test, and maybe trick him. Christ's reply - to tell a parable to help him grow. "A man walked down the road to Jericho. Thieves beat and stripped him, leaving him to die. The man looked up with hope - a priest comes nigh, but passing him, no mercy does he show. A Levite, too. Then, a Samaritan whose clan were enemies unto his race. It was this one who saved the dying man - the man least likely to reach out his hand. HE was the neighbor, filled with love and grace. Go forth and be that neighbor in the land." Written 25 Oct 2020

A good Samaritan indeed we all should be. I will never ever harm or hurt anyone, ever, but I don't know if I would fit the bill of a good Samaritan. However there are quite a few on soup that write exceptional superb religious poems, including you my dear friend, you re the good Samaritans that spread your messages far and wide and touch peoples hearts. Hugs and blessing John, a beautiful write. Jennifer.

Thank you, Jennifer for those gentle and affirming words. I always hope my spiritual writes are edifying to those of like minds, without seeming judgmental to those of different faiths. Please be in prayer for my country today as votes are tallied, that we will avoid outbursts of violence. Thank you ~ John

Your sonnet to the parable of the Good Samaritan flows so well, John. This has always been one of my favorite parables that Jesus taught, and your poetic pen has captured it so beautifully! :)

Not everyone is religious, but we all should have good morals and your poem hints on being a good neighbor and we should all be that.. The sonnet flows very well...
