Gone But Not Apart
I listen to the mourning dove softly coo
Soothing thoughts return to me, of you
I remember those years, I was not alone
As you understood justice and my need to atone
But that’s not so easy, with those who refuse
And keep with the ways that they choose
You sacrificed your life for my closure
Because they didn’t like the exposure
I see things similar in this world today
I’m almost glad you can’t see it, as I pray
The mourning doves coo, they play a sad tune
I listen and be careful not to swoon
Because you never left my mind or my heart
You are gone, but my soul will never part
