Gluttons For Punishment

It shouldn't come as a surprise,
That gluttony is on the rise, 
When TV 's are turned back on just after Sunrise,
To watch batter for Yorkshire pudding in the oven to rise.

Yet I wonder if it is all that wise,
For yet more cooking shows to devise,
When we know obesity is on the rise,
And operating tables are now of a bigger size.

So, yes it really is a surprise,
With many leading such busy lives, 
That gluttony is on the rise,
As one would think TV would be taking a back seat in our lives, 
Yet before the sun can rise,
Cooking shows are a sight for sore eyes.

I grab an apple and hide the chocolate cake before I begin to watch. :-) It's unfortunate though that cheaper foods, like cookies, chips, and McDonald's, are all high in sat fat, salt, and sugars. 'Good for you food' is almost always more expensive. I feel the need to exercise all of a sudden. Can you tell I liked your poem? Made me chuckle! Login to Reply David Smith Date: 9/9/2022 3:42:00 AM I enjoy my food like most others but everywhere you look there is a plate of something and they way it is advertised is quite sickening. I have a Facebook account which I seldom visit but my wife's friends keep posting pictures of food on hers. It must be irksome for those families that have for families barely have enough to eat to see overindulgence everywhere they turn.Jamie Oliver's simple recipes are the ones's I try. Our eldest daughter does too. The others seem more about the celebrities than the food. the packaging here means that you often have to pay for more than a recipe requires so it is often cheaper to buy which is the reverse of what I grew up with. We knew early on that teaching your children to cook/bake means they will eat healthy. Each member of our family has a speciality dish to bring to the table. Appreciate your comments David in NZ.
