Gay Or Straight Or Anything In Between

Thirty years working as an Early Childhood teacher, With spells working with children of all ages, Including teenagers with messed up lives, Has taught me that gay or straight, Or anything in between, The one thing you can do for children, To help them grow up without feeling short-changed, So they don't spend their life forever searching, searching, Instead of enjoying, enjoying, Is give them access to a man, The one thing you can do for children, To help them grow up without feeling, short-changed, So they don't spend their life forever, searching searching, Instead of enjoying, enjoying, Is to give them access to a woman. If you had seen what I had seen, You would be agreeing, agreeing. If you had stepped into a room full of children where there was no man, And had children hanging off your arms and legs, With others demanding a piggyback. If you had stepped into a room full of children where there was no man, And a child you had never seen before, Asked for a cuddle. If you had stepped into a room full of children where there was no man, And a child you had never seen before, Asked you to to their house for tea. If you had stepped into a room full of children where there was no man And a child you had never seen before, Asked for your phone number. If you had stepped into a room full of children where there was no man, And the only conclusion you could come to, Was that, any man will do, Or any women. Would you not be agreeing, agreeing. If you had worked in a facility where there were no women, And heard their comments, Would not be agreeing, agreeing. If you had entered private home where there was no women, And seen what happens when a woman enters, Would you not be agreeing, agreeing. If you live in the real world, You will know, That there are men, And women, Who are charged with the care of children, Without the support of a man, or a women, Who find their job impossible, Would you not be agreeing, agreeing. If you live in the real world, You will know, sometimes from personal experience, That there are men, And there are women, Who have other things on their mind, Besides the well-being of children, Would you not be agreeing, agreeing, That there just maybe, There is something in what I am saying, saying, When there are so many adults, Who are feeling shortchanged, Who are not coping, coping, Who are still searching, searching, Who may be blaming, blaming, Instead of enjoying, enjoying.

I will look it up. I had a man for my first teacher and loved school. I also wrote "Marguerite," good schools but toxic mother! On Amazon, also couldn't get an agent interested. Posted some on Short Stories. Keep fighting! Elizabeth

David, this is a remarkable poem, a profound social comment. No one should be able to decree that you take an opposite sex spouse. No one should ignore that a child needs regular and extended exposure to both men and women. Elizabeth

Thank you. It is a subject that is close to my heart, and there is a fly in the ointment. Maybe we have come too far to not look at same sex couples who can bring extended family into the mix, especially as there are children with mothers and fathers who are are only worried about where their next fix is coming from. A hard pill to swallow. I wrote a book called 'suffer the little children' on the daily choices teachers, parents and children make around day care. I think it is still on line. I self published because no traditional publisher would take it on. I have royalties I may never recover. I am thankful my children and my grandson skipped daycare. All we can do is keep highlighting what most people do not want to face and every child who gets access to men and women who did not before is a win. Stay strong David in NZ
