it’s the day after
and there’s whooping & hollering
the oculus is operational
kid’s head buried
in witless game
oblivious of who, what, where
there’s an attachment to his inner mind
no one else can see
i see poetry
in a tree, a frothing cup,
in a knight-shining chessboard -
black and white
i see i see
i long the sea
even if i trip
into the oculus
with pirouetting waves,
captive to a pirate ship,
i shall not wear
the scent of salt-air,
feel the brisk slap of the windy-cold,
be tossed to and fro,
be entertained
it’s the day after
there’s whooping & hollering
mindful i aim
for fun & games
ones that i can put my hands to
