The past is like a secret hole
It can make us cry and it can make us smile,
It can bring gentle thoughts or it can bring depression,
It can erase the stars from the sky
And it can place the twinkling across the night,
It can color the heart in joy and faith
Still, it might turn the whole world to gray,
It can inspire the soul to bring light to the eyes
And it can blow out the brightest candle inside
The past is like a suffering that can’t be consoled,
It blends its history with the present, confusing
The blessings and the richest treasures
With melancholic fears and endless despairs,
Feelings that bleed darkness into the air,
Lifting the silence with hope and kindness,
Spilling reassurance into the forever thoughts
The ones that reveal truths that were sought
By hearts who believed – when the stories
Trickled through layers of pain, struggling
To see the beautiful in the yearning, the brilliance
In the thundering – the feelings so alive
Music that fills the soul with complete insight
The past is like a breathless sigh
Stirring up feelings that awaken the sun
Shining through the stillness,
Illuminating the love that comes to life
When two hearts meet and realize
There is a reason beyond the laughter,
A reason far truer than the here and now,
A reason for these feelings that crowd out the doubts,
Heal the past’s impressions with tenderness
Affection that brings recovery from the anguish,
Mending from the ache, knowing that this is a blessing
The sweetest lesson – His overpowering gift
Permission to let go of what once meant more,
So that there is the chance to see through the dark
Into the morning where there is renewed hope,
Into the fresh start, the new day, the prospect – the grace
That finds a way to bring music to the anxious soul,
Beauty to the unsightly thought, a miracle of love and hope
The past – long gone because love has won
Through Him, we’ve overcome the black
Made our way into the light that guides souls home
To the never ending love that will always grow
Inside those who know – even if you don’t
Think your candle is bright… He is the One who silenced
All the doubts and whispered joy to the soul
He is the abiding love that sings the glistening into the stars,
Brings miracles from the shadows and frees the heart
To know the meaning of real pleasure…
The pleasure of a light that stills all the ghosts of a past
That might give us hope or might make us gasp,
The past, with all its dreaded fears and years of doubt
Struggles to see through the joy that time with this love
Brought to the spirit who could see through the gloom,
Into the blazing flames of a love that stills every pain!
