Frog
A frog hops into a pond
algae washing over her form.
A small school of goldfish swim up, and the frog kicks it away.
She doesn't need them.
Her foot catches on a lilypad
and suddenly she's been flung underneath.
She's sinking, faster and faster
but she started this disaster.
The fish just swim past her.
Her lungs are on fire
She's a crying little liar
She needs nothing but herself
Yet she's the one caught in the briars.
Screaming for air
Nobody cares
She wasn't spared
