Notes About The Poem

Author's Notes: This poem, "Frankenstein's Monster," is written in a light verse form as a Clerihew-formatted write. It just happens to be set in Iambic Pentameter (IP) as opposed to the more expected irregular meter associated with this type of poem. My verses just happened to fall neatly into "IP," and so I decided go with this traditional syllabication scheme instead. This write is rhymed: aabb. It is intended to be a humorous tongue-in-cheek write, and so I hope no one is offended. And so, please enjoy!! (Gary Bateman - July 25, 2015)

Frankenstein's Monster

Frankenstein’s Monster

Frankenstein’s Monster has that cosmic glow,
And only wants to be a common Joe.
Looking now for his oh-so-special-mate;
Beware ladies, HE could be your next date!

A real funny Clerihew, Gary. Made me smile ear to ear. Last line was so hilarious. I'm a huge fan of horror/sci-fi. Ratio: Watch 100 campy, bad horror/sci-fi, and then a rare film of excellence comes your viewing way. Film budget don't define a good film ... the director, acting and writing do. This was a cleverly written poem. Love and best wishes.

Thanks Freddie!! I'm very glad you liked this one!! I really need to do some more humorous writes (Clerihews) in this particular vein. I'm also a horror/sci-fi buff, and a big fan of the traditional Universal Picture horror movies from the 1930s-40s. Thanks Again My Great Friend . . . Cheers and Best, Gary

Hello Olive!! I hope I didn't scare you here with "Frankenstein's Monster." Yup, the notes are important to me since I catalog all of my writes for eventual book publication. The notes are my audit trail of when and why I wrote a particular poem. They are a technique I use to keep all of my work straight (or at least I hope so)!! Cheers, Gary

Hello Paul!! Thanks for your visit here (and the top marks)!! I decided to try to do something a little different and artful in an attempt at some humor since I've been locked down of recent in the world of "love poetry." My wife, Ingrid, got a laugh out of this one since I'm supposed to be an aficionado on horror movies. Yes -- the monster only goes after the ladies!! HA HA!! Cheers, Gary

Hello Alexis, Sorry about the misplaced post below. Somehow my response to Kim ended up here. Glad you liked this Clerihew. My subject creature is "spooky" for sure, but don't date this guy!! HA!! HA!! Thanks too for the "7." I'll tell Frankenstein -- and that should make this cosmic guy happy. Cheers!! Gary

Yup Kim -- I get tired of the more serious verse stuff after a while. This was my attempt at trying to be funny. Ingrid laughed at it, but thought it was a little stupid. But I said, "What the heck -- I'll go with it!!" And so, there it is. HA!! HA!! I'm pleased you liked it!! Cheers and Best!! Gary
