Four Simple Words

Who are you?
Where did you come from?
You are just a message on a computer screen
A note posted for everyone to see
Four simple words
“Where is my love?”
I sat and looked for hours
At those four words
Who could have written them?
Do they truly live in a life without love?
Does she sit patiently by her computer?
Waiting for someone to answer
Should I reply?
Should I say that I am also looking for love?
Maybe a poem professing honest love
Maybe a card with a melodic tune
No, two words will be enough
Two words that may capture her heart
Finally, with ten keystrokes I do reply
A simple message
An answer to that pleading question
I write, “Right here”
And then I sit back in my chair
Sipping on a Coke with no ice
Waiting for a reply that may never come

The two words you chose for our response to her question were perfect, Robert. We all seek love even though, as you wrote, it "may ever come." I think God is trying to teach us patience in this endeavor which seems to be a lifelong quest for many of us. Beautiful poem, Robert, and if it is a true story, I hope you get the reply for which you hope. Love you, dear friend! Carolyn
