Forever Thirteen

Forever Thirteen
Her statuesque beauty beguiled so many
While her bright friendly smile attracted plenty
Her long flowing tresses of light auburn hair
They flattered her soft peachy skin, ever so fair

Despite her grown looks and her wisdom mature
Masked very well by her lust for adventure
Twas her youthful remarks and impish green eyes
Clearly gave her away and told otherwise

Of her life, she was mistress determined was she,
That her excitement for knowledge would always be
She loved reading books beyond her young years,
Which scholastically set her apart from her peers.

Fearing nothing ahead, she shimmied a rope
That was twisted with death with nowhere to grope
It stole her last breath as her peers froze in fright
Came the black coach and whisked her out of their sight

Leaving her loved ones standing knee deep in snow
Crying to heaven for her please not to go
With their aching hearts numbed and stricken with grief
Their desperate pleas echoed, but gave no relief

Years have passed, some of us still on the scene
Through a gray misty haze, her smile can be seen
Her timeless giggles still ring in our ears,
With treasured memories of our short teenage years

Our Yellow Brick Road came to an abrupt end
Our hearts were so broken and unable to mend
We cautiously proceeded; futures unseen
Leaving our Laura behind at Forever Thirteen.
