[for Once My Lips]
for once my lips
began to move I was unwilling
to stop the pounding of fierce
flesh. the battle, shoulders crossed-
lost allies- rages into the dusk
of night.
simple says those of fortune, who
run their lives fearing the invisible
wrath of regret. the double-edged
sword forced into enemy and friend
while slashing through my being.
I do not ask forgiveness. the deeds
once dripped off my tongue
have fallen on bare feet. I do
not wait for the scars to be
removed.
all I ask is for them to be
seen, with fresh eyes. I ask for
understanding; that there may be
scars painted upon skin, upon
bone, but they are old and
healed.
on this day of at-one-ment
why must the search for an
outside aide be taken. I make this
journey alone, navigated by
scarred flesh and
glazed eyes. it is never over-
curious night. long stretch of road.
accept the words flowing from
my beating heart. my
shoulders have calmed for the
night. and so shall
I, without regret.
