For Fool's Gold

For a life of wealth her soul she had sold. But now as she finds herself growing old, she thinks of the man whose hand she can’t hold, for she gave up love and joy for fool’s gold. Nov. 20, 2016 for the Fool's Gold Poetry Contest of Julia Ward

Such a pity. Realization makes the loss more worse.

Such compelling wisdom in such a short poem, Andrea. Masterfully done. Touche. It bespeaks the truth concerning matters of the heart. You are wise as well as talented. Keep the love and knowledge flowing from your pen, lady. Love and blessings to you.

So true and so sad Andrea it is said that most people have this same regret on their death beds being too busy with gain, and not spending more time with friends, and loved ones certainly taking a portion of the FOOLS GOLD your poem is short but tall in lessons very nice Andrea

Though this is a little sad, the form and meter of this poem feels very smooth and the rhymes are spot on. This is a well crafted poem Andrea, nicely done.

Hi Andrea, This is a well written piece, that many can relate too. I myself wouldn't mind riches. But to sell my soul and walk away from love, I don't want it that bad. Well done. I wish you the best of luck in the contest:-) Alexis

Did you ever hear the song "Satisfied Mind"? It has the lyrics - which say that you won't find one rich man in ten with a satisfied mind. The woman in your poem mad a mistake - a devastating one - something unfortunately that we all do at times. I will get you out a chapbook

I have known many who have probably made the same deal. There have been times in my life, I would have done it myself , if it were possible. True to life write, Andrea:)

It happens all the time. I am amazed at the empire building that takes place. It's part of our broken culture. The sad part here is that she could have had it. I think of old relationships where I was rejected sometimes. I try not to go there, but I can't help it. I have a brain that is constantly triggered to past events by current prompts.
