Folk Often Say:

Folk often say:
I wish the world was more loving,
How many people did you love today?

Folk often say:
Why is he/she homeless?
How many spare rooms,
do you have in your mansion?

Folk often say:
I don't understand why is he/ she
begging for food,
How much food did you leave on
your plate and throw away?

Folk often say:
Why does he/she have on
those ragged clothes?
How many nice clothes did
you throw in the trash?

Change starts with the person
you see in the mirror every day.

"how many people did you love today?" - This is a poem in itself, and should be a bumper sticker, a song, a star, and a play. Bravo Alexis, BRAVO!

Oh, this is good. Correction: Not good, but GREAT! A FAVE. Every time I pass a homeless person and think negative thoughts, I'm going to remind myself of your poem. Surely I have more than he/she does. Surely I can share a tiny bit of my bounty... Thanks, Gershon

Hi Alexis, You sound just like my son, I think his socialist thinking borders with your thinking - you are both totally correct. but - what if you inherited the mansion, then what - our two boys have flown the nest a while ago, and although we cook far too much we have 3 domestic helpers we give any surplus to - the same with our clothes, or they go to Hospice - we try our hardest not to waste - wonderful write Alexis and one that should reach and touch the hearts of many. Poetry hugs, Jennifer.

thought provoking piece Alexis and I never thought I would see the day we had a foodbank on our little Island and there are also charities where you can donate clothing for the less fortunate folk out there. Hugs Jan xx

Amazing what and how much needy things get trashed everyday by some of the wealthy, and even by some of the not so wealthy people. What's even worse is when people do donate their belongings to some charitable place, only a small percentage actually gets to the needy. There are quite a few organizations that hand pick what gets delivered, the rest of the things get sold in stores like Odd-Lot or flea markets. Great write Alexis...Charlie

Thank heavens there are places that give meals and clothing to the poor. I think we should donate what we can to places like these. Well done, Alexis.
