Notes About The Poem

Poem written for and submitted to “Drop the Cliché” poetry contest, Nette Onclaud, sponsor, December 6, 2025.

FLY OFF THE HANDLE-Cliche Poetry Contest

When the kettle screams,
I become the steam~
a ghost unspooling
from its copper ribs.

Bones click like stove dials,
skin hums with the hiss
of a pressure gauge
punctured by a hit and a miss.

Tee-totaller true, sips tea and crumpets too! A favorite gist, a sure hit, not a miss. A snicker-doodle, this stove-kettle. Thank you.

Wow!! Good one, Sara B., It reads like a good contender for the contest. Maybe a steppingstone for me to write one, but that might not be fair. Of course, mine would not be as good as this one. Sara K

Nicely done, Sara; my wife often drinks tea, and the hiss of the kettle is comforting high note, saying all is right. Good luck in contest.

I agree....something comforting about the gentle urgency of a tea kettle. Merry Christmas.
