Fly-Away Thoughts
Where do errant thoughts
Go when they fly away?
Are they lost to me forever,
Or do they later ricochet?
Empty as the air must seem
It’s filled with unsaid words,
Ideas not yet written, that
Swirl and wheel like birds
Waiting for a hungry brain
That’s searching for some food
To urge a mind to action
And inspire creative mood.
Perhaps the trav’ling thoughts
In the ether wilds will meet
And, bouncing back to me,
Will cause sensation sweet -
A thread to weave a stream
Of poetic lines and phrases
So that I can write again
With inspiration that amazes.
