Flip Me Over

Old souls don't drift off and die
Sit there idle, or even care why
Achieving greatness takes time
Values and a certain state of mind

Realize, for once, it's not just what you see
Understand nuance, syntax, and hyperbole
Help yourself, don't get fooled by any old shroud
Though others are silent and lost in the crowd
Rise up, be courteous, let words show them wrong
As free as a whisper and the cardinal's sweet song

Hello Tim, I think you hit a "Home Run" with this one my good friend. This rhyme verse is truly marvelous to read for sure. You've managed to weave some telling themes into your rhyme. Outstanding!! A FAVE!! Best Wishes Always, Gary

:) It's not always easy to be courteous, especially when others are rude. This takes courage. Lovely poem, Tim.

"Rise up, be courteous, let words show them wrong". Not sure what message you were broadcasting here, I got several. This quote made me think of some strong positive influencers here in the soup. It takes an effort to rise above some of the negative. I like Dale's take as well. Great poem Tim. A Fav!

I want to sing the cardinal's sweet song too, Tim. But I don't always whisper the words. Very nicely done.

I see this as a lesson for poets to keep evolving and learning to make decisions freely, not just take someone else's word for it. Since I will want to read it again I faved it.
