Flight of the Eagle

Did you feel the beat of her wings The wild wind brushing your face as she flew The power and force from tens of thousands of years Forged together in her flight just for you Did she steal the air from your lungs As she soared high above through summer skies To rise like a phoenix from ashes to great heights Gliding the thermals she seeks as she flies Did you see her effortless gait Subtle flexes of feathers on her wings Steering her onwards and ever upwards through flight Drifting every which way the thermal springs Did she send shivers down your spine As she suddenly spied her prey below Wings back head down she dropped steeply back down to earth To grasp her prey and deal that fatal blow Did you watch her talons reach out Then clench as they held fast onto her prize As she lifted it from the ground and flew away Carrying her trophy back to the skies Did your every dream find their wings Watching the grace and beauty of her flight As she sailed timelessly through summers golden glow Did she mesmerise with awesome delight Jane Shields (C)
