Notes About The Poem

Hello, dear soup angels! This is my first ever authentic ekphrasis, so I dunno if I did well ... a lil nerve-wrecking, but this is how my soul bled after seeing this absolutely timeless artwork. Crafted for Ink Empress's contest, Pyramid of Peace, and I have also used her prompts, twisted a bit here and there.

Flaming Odyssey, the artwork Zdzislaw Beksinski (art number; BE84, 1984)

saffron stardust spirits sobered ,
the serpent sun breathes silence ~
as it bleeds fire-orange freckles,
resting the ruse in hesitance
where this saga is a sultry siesta of Ra ~
the siren slaughtered by deities
who never reckoned
the dialect of our ravenous refuse.

         " Alas, the tremors
            of your lips sliver ~
           sizzling across the weather
as I sieze your stretched sighs
         from sangria sunset streaks ~
     for this scythe foresooth
   becomes my murderous wraith,
    and I seek not
             to convince thou
                    that we are withheld
                                  beyond a g e "

stripped with satin and solace,
this sharpness slices the Zen
in a white - sonata noise
where all is not heard,
clustered in clandestine orchards
of citrine kohl kismet,
ashes drizzle in esoteric emeralds
unforgettable ~ unfathomable ~ unforgivable
the cesium conquest crystallises
in the crown of the conjurer,
but you L'ile d'amour ~
listen to this symphony
sizzling in scarlet sopranos ~
I nevermore remain
your beau with sakura lips,
releasing notes of honeyed hymns,
as summers wither in prejudice
the nocturnal neons swell
monsoon reclaims mayhem
and winter whispers another wilt,
thou my love
shall still be born in demise
every half-moon,
where each bereaved star
must stay banished
and forbidden, until, you and I
surrender in baptized reminiscence
of the tendrils of each other ...

" do you trace the titiliating titanium
          tethered on the tongue
            of the bereaved twilight,
       thunder that ruffles in tattooes
    engraved into these skeletal branches
             that breathe only you ~
        the riptide rupture
       of rustic reassurance
that recedes in your russets ...?

Alas, what a verse is to him
whose pulse is spellcasted
with a kohl curse of psyche ?

              what is your scarlet sphinx
to the one , Emperor of Eclipse ~
              when thou, beloved has been
              breathless ~ bonded ~ boundless"

clandestine rust is our only recluse
in this void of velvet vaults
I keep a blood-dripping vampire rose
a dose of delusion
as you sip the sorrow of swarovski seas
sitting alone the shoreline ~
where my flesh has dried
and the driftwood remembers
our remnants,
in the whirlwind vortex
of venom and peacock light ,
streaming an astral eloquence
in supernova scars ,
because everything ... and nothing...
rests deeper than the daunt of death

       darling, deceased to dust
we are hollow ... the phoenix rust
    the dawn and the dusk
diagnozed with dangerous dilemmas ,
        dwarfed with dissected dreams
 we are those tragic trespassers
      unrescued from this
      anesthetic atonement of detachment
but attached to the atopsied assonance ~
        scintillating in anatomical arteries
            pumping peridot poison
  and primrose passion
  as perfumes of promises
left on an eternal pyre ,
   across the flaming sapphire spheres
that resigned to reign the rule with rife ...

"... then the poem in you ceased
and left only enigmatic envy
in the corner of embossed eyes
that had seen you,
only in golden grief
and there from the grave of anguish
my spirit hath sung wrath..."

as history presses into
medieval pages ~
arced through the mausoleum
of a scentless flaming odyssey
that they read ~
yet can never imprison us
in mere letters of lethal translation,
because we may have lost
the battle but our sacred ink
shall inhale the soulfulness
flowing in carved constellations ~
cutting through
the cursive catacomb of
their chiseled crimson threads ...

"They say ~
I should be fluent in hate
but I speak so in love
when thou have been
the only time that
I ever lived
when this, mon amour
is the only morgue of morrow
that I shall seek ...
forever ...
and evermore ... "

Right now as I read this for some reason ~ it hits so deeply dear Hiya, my angelic star, my soulful poetess, the one whose heart translates the metaphors running through my mind, expressing what could resonate with me ~ theres too many lines that I just want to read more than once. And there is an archaic vibe to your word weaving, well I am not always into archaic words in modern poetry, but how you did it is just breathtaking, I had to hold onto my heart and just calm my racing thoughts😭

So many descriptive details. You put a lot of work into this. You always make incredible use of alliteration, Hiya. I don't know how you free verse poets do it. Big congrats. 🌹

Dear Hiya, your amazing poem is full of imagery and uses a variety of literary strategies to portray complicated ideas and feelings. Metaphor and symbolic analogy are used extensively throughout the poem, adding depth. While the poem might be thick and difficult to understand at times, readers are rewarded by its depth and variety of genres and voices. A fave in my collection

This sounds like a gothic poem, blending romance and imagery. Well done for the use of the prompts. Best for a win.

Hiya, you need never feel nervouse about writing another Ekphrasis. The depth of your passion for this tragedy about to take place is far beyond everything they had time to think, say or pray. Alliteration to the nth degree that makes sense! "...everything... and nothing... rests deeper than the daunt of death." I also thought your "morgue of morrow" fanned the flames of their sorrow. Excellent writing.

Oh my sweet Linnnn, you don't know how deeply you've touched my heart with such beautiful and encouraging words! As it was my first ekphrasis, I was a bit unsure ~ but your feedback has really elevated my spirit! After reading your take on this artwork, I was so moved and inspired to dive deeper just as you did ~ you really do inspire through your poems, dear soul. And yes the alliteration here is such madness, only fathomable by some lolololol, I'm glad that you enjoyed it to the nth degree how adorable!!? And your comment indeed is so poetic in itself! Fanned the flames of their sorrow, Gosh! Love that! I admire you, gorgeous friend ~ thank you very much ~ sending you starbeams and light!

Wow Hiya - an odyssey in Love, passion, longing, desire. You’ve truly done justice to the art piece. Your poem flips between dark & light. As always, your alliteration is superb. I enjoyed the direct speech bits in inverted commas, as the mind releases thoughts. Have you considered breaking up the longer stanzas with spaces so that the alliteration carries more power ? This line has two typos you might want to correct : “ arced through the mousoleum ” (I’m not absolutely sure whether you mean arches/ not arced) For your first ekphrasis you’ve climbed into the art piece. In relation to the Contest title, I personally would add a few lines on how peace relates to dark passion & death as you’ve articulated, unless your intention is to flip the Contest Title around : if so, then the interpretation is absolutely fine. ThkU for sharing your beautiful piece. I enjoyed. Rainbow Light : trust you are better. Xx

Dear Ghairo, firstly I appreciate your time that you sincerely took to read, grasp and understand the meticulous nature of my poem. This artwork touched my heart deeply, thus, the result is a truly complex riddle of metaphors. The alliteration here is not intentional but a sort of release that knows the rhythm of the soul. So I let it free, not forcing anything, rather letting everything be settled in their own space. Also, about that line "arced through the mausoleum" i meant, an ancient saga, pressed in the pages of history that can be heard, arced like the crescent shape and running through the mausoleum. It's okay if one cannot grasp just at the moment cuz the imagery and metaphors there are intentionally left open for interpretations. As for the contest titled, 'Pyramid of Peace" I believe it has nothing to do with the prompts and the artwork prompt that Ink Empress has provided. She is not running a peace movement over here, it might just be her personal preference.
