First Step Forward

Unprepared as ever, I was scared. My past proved I was no good. But I wanted to believe the truth. I shut my eyes and took a deep breath, Watching the smoke disappear from my view. This too had to stop. I couldn’t break another promise. So many unwanted thoughts clouded my head. The song began to change, And I still paid no heed to it. I didn’t know what to feel yet. Excitement bubbled here and there. Happiness was just beyond the horizon. Sadness rippled over the surface. Above all I was afraid. And unsure. Twisting a strand of hair around my finger I thought to myself, Seconds later a smile sprang to my lips. This time was different. Cause this time I wanted it.
