First Signs of Spring
Listen to poem:
Early spring rumbles
in its grunge of grey
it's a prelude to the sun
and effervescent life
Its muffled inner gurglings
await the miracle of thaw
and all its bursts of promises
of crocus bulbs and sprouts
Mere faded remembrances
the brittle leaves of yesteryear
a season buried under snow
its pure white coat long gone
Naked branches barely stir
still groggy in their sleep
await the surge of energy
to kickstart their awakening
Relentless rhythm of seasons
under threat of heavy clouds
will wash away winter’s decay
and welcome spring in all its glory
