First Signs of Spring

Listen to poem:
Early spring rumbles in its grunge of grey it's a prelude to the sun and effervescent life Its muffled inner gurglings await the miracle of thaw and all its bursts of promises of crocus bulbs and sprouts Mere faded remembrances the brittle leaves of yesteryear a season buried under snow its pure white coat long gone Naked branches barely stir still groggy in their sleep await the surge of energy to kickstart their awakening Relentless rhythm of seasons under threat of heavy clouds will wash away winter’s decay and welcome spring in all its glory AP: 1st place 2022, Honorable Mention 2022 Submitted on April 8, 2020 for contest STRAND POETRY PICK 4 sponsored by BRIAN STRAND - RANKED 3RD Originally posted on June 1, 2019

Line, congratulations on your third place win! Your first line with its dramatic imagery sets your poem in motion with contrasts of winter to spring; grey to color, decay to life. I enjoyed reading it. Made me think about all of the new life in my garden born from composting leaves and twigs of last year. Stay well. Here's to new life!

Lovely musings on winter slowly releasing its grip. Enjoyed the line, "Waiting for the surge of energy / That kickstarts life". Congrats on your win. Take care ~ John
