First Glance

When I was young and so in love… I felt my heart melting with a glance. But as I grew older and observed all I learned of… I recognized the consequence of being askance. When I touched another’s soul… I knew the meaning of sincere hope. Yet time cleared the fantasy from all I console And I felt wave upon wave of rejection’s kaleidoscope. When I reached out with a tender touch… One warm hand seemed to feel my truth. Then came a time when the silence was a crutch… With the cold hand of miserable uncouth. When sunlight glinted against my skin… Warmth filled me from deep within. But winter’s chill came with a spin… That even the seasons only just begin. When time passed by me with its moments… There were changes I could not undo. With every new dawn there was absence… Of gentle dreams passing on through. Without second thoughts or second chances… Would the wisdom of age conspire to succeed? With only those first small glances… Would we ever reach what we truly need? The older we get, the more we look at things from different perspectives and we react in different ways. When comparing....what conclusions do we come to!? Enjoyed this write; it's meant to ponder on. // paul
