First Day At School - Ct

I smiled, when I went to school first, And I cried and bloomed a riddle; Kids asked if it was for my thirst, But I gazed when girls did giggle. I smiled for I wanted to learn, And I cried for I had a burn, And our teacher rushed to the scene; I yelled, when she did my burn clean. First, I went to a school and cried, And I smiled when riddle I bloomed; I gazed if it was for my kids, But when I did giggle, girls asked. A few know this lovelier tale, And they oft' tell, and kids all hail. Syllable Count: 8 syllables in each line (Ref. howmanysyllable.com) Rhyming scheme: ABAB / CCDD / EFGH / II *A 3rd Place* in the following contest (judged on Oct. 13, 2020) Sept. 3, 2020 Charonnet Poetry Contest Sponsor: Charles Messina

Hi Newton, great poetry my friend. I'm sorry if this was a bit confusing and for my example that I had to edit (lol). But it's probably my fault for not explaining well enough, but this was just a little off as far as the format was supposed to be. (I apologize) Anyway, congratulations on your placement and thanks for entering my contest. Hope all is well...Charlie

Hi Newton. Cute Charo. Do I imagine, one of Charlie's vesres had ten syllables per line. Think CCDD, wilk check. Maybe he edited it since posting a few days ago. I notice a few other Charos are pure eights as well. All good, cheers

Thank you so much, Sigrid, for the close read. Sure, Charles' second verse has 10 syllables in each line, and I assume, he wants us to write only 8-syllabic lines.
