Finding Life In Failure's Cup
What lessons do we really learn in our success,
When, after all, we won it, oh, so brightly
No need to look for luck in victory’s excess
That might deflate our egos even slightly…
Although to triumph always seems our just deserts
Should we discount completely other’s efforts,
Chivalric rule that still humility asserts
Though gleefully we toast our new won comforts?
Defeated yes, dishonored no, stand challengers
Whose prospects had us shaking, quite in terror
While we probed our own depths like starving scavengers
And prayed to God we’d find escape from error.
How lucky sometimes losers are who just miss Gold
Inspiring them to martial their resources
And push themselves to reach a new threshold
By pledging all to excellence’s sources.
