Fate

I climb that mountain every day I have looked for a path or an easier way My mind plays tricks but my heart it knows To climb any other way would cause me to slow Life is not fair, it is often cruel I have learned my lesson I have been a fool You cannot make an excuse, you cannot quit You must keep onward and keep your wits It is ok to dream, it is ok to hope But don't get careless and let go of that rope Maybe it is a curse, or maybe it is a mistake But I think it is just life, and I call it fate

"You must keep onward and keep your wits", very true. I think fate is not encapsulating what really is there for you. I do think there is a grand plan and a reason we go through what we go through to make it to the point of destination, but even then we continue on ... could be "destiny", I prefer to call it for what it is, "the journey". Sometimes you have to let go of the rope; what's on the other end of it could drag a person down. But I do understand where you are going with that rope as a safety harness, nothing dire. Great poem, love it.

Liked the line about not letting go of the rope. Your poem is well rhymed, too. Good job.)) Panagiota
