Farewell To Summer
Fading into oblivion of COVID 19 is what we expected of you this year,
And an end to all the fear and trepidation brought on by the awesome virus.
Rather, not only did we get more of the same, but an outbreak of violence
Exceeding any continuous rioting across America that I have ever witnessed.
What seemed a normal wish became a dwindling dream and nightmare.
Every expectation of an assist with the virus was too much to ask of Summer.
Lasting heat waves, massive wild fires, civil unrest, political divisiveness.
Little relief came on rare occasions, but this Summer is one for the records.
Time heals all wounds, but this time, healing will take a little more time.
Of this much I am certain: summer is a most beloved season, but this year,
I gladly say, "goodbye".
Someday, perhaps as early as next year, we shall see you and welcome you
again with open arms.
Underneath our sad faces and wounded hearts, there are no lasting grudges
being held against you.
Miracles do happen, and we are praying that by next summer we will be
singing a brand new tune.
Maybe you will join the chorus of wedding bells, baseball games, and
barbecues in the public parks.
Enjoyment of early evenings will return with cool breezes without worries of
soot and smoky lungs.
Rest a while, my summer friend, and do not take it personal that we are very
glad to see you go.
