Notes About The Poem

Farewell

The sweet voice of the announcer
Echoed through the airport.
Ladies and Gentlemen
Gate 4 Malta Paris is now open.
Take your hand luggage
And have your tickets ready.

                    *
He picked up his briefcase,
Looked at his lady friend,
Her eyes were swollen with tears.
He dared not kiss her goodbye.

Will you be back, she stammered.
No, it is better this way. For I
Have loved you on and off.
You don’t deserve a man like me.
You need a steadfast person,
Someone who will care for you
In a very proper way.
You will be loved and have a family,
A kind person who deserves you.
I am not that kind of person.
Don’t think I shall not miss you.
I’ll wander around the periphery
Of Rue de Jardin, always alone
No woman will take your place.
Silence will be my companion.
I deserve no better. So my sweet,
I bid you farewell. And wipe away
The small tear in my eye.
                    *
Then he gave her a thin envelope.
It was her one-way ticket for Paris.
Would she go?

Good and romantic. I like the sequence of events. She may be on the spot if she hasn't packed. Then again, It's Paris. Perhaps he can shell enough for a few fine outfits. I think he'll get her.

So fascinating, Victor, I felt bad. I was there watching the depart. I mean,,, well writteb leaxing the ebding open! We can each choose which way she went. I think she left. But an honest woman is better than a liar. Pve, Pangie, The translation of the song I used The girl from Ipanema.. there are several versions of it, but nobody can run it. I hope you get to hear it and enjoy it.. Love , Pangie xoxoxi

Dear Victor, This lingers along with his regret, her heartbreak, the weight of love slipping through trembling hands. The ache of goodbye, yet a door left ajar. I felt every pause, every unspoken plea. I love when a story touches me. Winter Blessings, My Dear Friend Daniel

Wow!! Good question. Should she go? Will he change? If she goes, will she only be hurt? What can she accept in life as a good life? Thanks for sharing this one that brings out so many questions to think about. Sara K

Oh, this is a heart wrenching good bye. I feel my eyes too getting moistened. Dear Victor, you have a very rare capacity to get your reader deeply involved in the state of mind or situation you describe. A beautiful poem.

A sad love story - does she go to Paris - she knows you love her but that you feel she needs someone who can give her his undivided attention, but she could say I love you and you are all and who I only want in my life, so I am not going anywhere if you really love half as much as you say, I want only you. My interpretation. HUGS BLESSING - AN EXCELLENT WRITE Jennifer.
