Fancy-Free

When I was fourteen I was bored with me. The older boys had an eye for the girls, The younger ones still played marbles, you see, And I was stuck 'tween the games and the curls. My grandpa is a wise old man, thought I. So I asked him what a young boy should do. "Hear the wind,my boy, could that be a sigh? Follow the hawk, see the world from his view." "Let your senses lead you to anywhere - You will not be young and carefree again. It is called 'fancy-free' and you should share This time with body and soul like all men" I heard his words and let my spirit roam. "Fancy free" took me away - brought me home. 5/24/2017 For Fancy Free Poetry Contest for Julia Ward
