Falling Down

the corner of her mind, a shadowed thing has reared its ugly head to bring her down it always coincides with when the world goes dark and brown it does not matter that it has a name as years go by, it's always just the same dons a funeral gown and curls inside herself and bravely smiles till spring —————— for the Painting Prompted Poetry Contest sponsored by Lisa YY written on 10/20/22 using image #2

Wow, Jeff. I’ve read this a few times and couldn’t decide if you were describing (as Angela suggested) SAD, or, as Pangie thought, a season. Could be (deliberately) both or either. Either way, a smart and informed write. Terry

My daughter suffers from depression, had to drop out of school at one point, it was so crippling. She has largely overcome it with proper medications and counseling, and has gone on to become a psychiatrist and help others with similar things, but she still struggles a bit in the wintertime. So in a way it is a season and a thing. Thanks for the read and comment, Terry!

Jeff! A killer, that last line is! Zowie. I think you were writing about a season, am I wrong? For me…….bare trees, howling winds, icy temperatures, like in Chicago, are quite depressing! Another fine write! Huggs, Pangie

Yes Pangie, one of my daughters suffers from SAD, not cripplingly so, but it is a harder time of year for her. I have no personal experience with it, and it seems to have developed more the older she's gotten, so I have only imagined from her descriptions. Thanks for the read, the comments, and we'll try to write some bright, cheery poetry to lighten things up a bit!

It sounds like depression Jeff. So sad this affects so many. I can feel your pain in sharing. Read the comment below. When it is personal it affects everyone in the family. I hope all gets well and through your caring support she will be fine... Heartfelt read Jeff...
