There are moments
When I find myself wishing
Yearning to be something I am not
Someone who serves Him
With never a doubt or sin
Someone who knows Him
Better than they know themselves
I wish I could say, my friend,
That I am a perfect Saint
A Christian so flawless and faultless
That I deserved the Christian name
I can’t say that, my friend
For I have faults and flaws
I’m wrong sometimes and I don’t always
Know the way to go
The words to say or the
Right from the wrong
I wish I could say, my friend
That I’m someone who always prays
The way that God can bless
With never a selfish desire or hope
I can’t say that, though
There are times I pray for selfish gain
Times when I don’t pray for the ones
That deserve the prayers the most
And times I don’t seek solace
In His amazing grace
There are moments
When I find myself longing
To be someone that I can be proud of
Someone who is totally selfless
Self-sacrificing like the Savior
The One I serve in spite of the fact
That I’m so inadequate and lacking
When it comes to being a Christian
Still, I pray… to become like Jesus
The One I know can take this clay I am
And create someone worthy of His love
I’m not a fake Christian
But I am a Christian who knows
I’m not perfect – even though I want to be
More like my Savior
Jesus, who died for me!
