For Ink Empress contest - Fading Photographs

Some poems are poured when a poet loses someone, so those who cannot write, feel words mirroring their souls. Since the betrayal of your blind vision, I've been roaming in realms of broken reflections. In your aquarium existence, I've let my emotions sink to the bottom. Remember, when I was your first thought, a jewel in your celebrated crown - now I'm just a pebble in a dirty puddle. It all started with a camera flash. With an obsession of clicks, we captured an anthology of amorous portraits. But now our love is a fading photograph, forgotten in the sun, edges curling, colours bleeding, where only faint faces remain. A butterfly romance, becoming more fragile over time. Vivid scarlet hearts, once beating rapidly, now echo in distant blurs and all I feel are the saddest sighs. In seasons of saudade, I've become an abandoned snapshot of an erased existence. Yet I still yearn for the taste of your lips, to break this haunting hunger. Helpless, lost in a desert storm, footprints left behind, dissolve with the wind, each particle floating away, forever misplaced - disjointed. Memories become like starlight spirits, as silhouettes and shadows dance under a moonlight sonata, slowly burning away all traces of permanence, so all that's left behind is an imprisoned moon, clouded in a dark hymn sky. All my eyes seem to envision is a maroon monsoon. Now my fingers are too afraid to create another photograph - as some memories bring back a waterfall of sorrows.

a jewel in your celebrated crown - now I'm just a pebble in a dirty puddle. In seasons of saudade, I've become an abandoned snapshot Now my fingers are too afraid to create another photograph - as some memories bring back a waterfall of sorrows. This is very intense and so true. Wonderfully expressed.

"In seasons of saudade, I've become an abandoned snapshot of an erased existence." What a piercing lament!! Such a moving , emotive poem with a waterfall of sorrows. All those failed in love can relate to this poem of intense heartache, longing and loss. Though the 'butterfly romance' has faded over time, the fire hasn't died out, but blazing inside like a funeral pyre. So very powerful diction and imagery. Congratulations on your top win, dear Silent One.

I enjoyed reading your wonderful "Fading Photographs" write. It is hard to go from "a jewel in your celebrated crown - now I'm just a pebble in a dirty puddle." Why do people/families/friends do this??? Great memories are the best kind to have but some memories bring a waterfall of tears. "Write On" Enjoy Your Day...........

Dear silent one, its always a brilliant poem from you, profound, sumptuous diction throughout, and such creative metaphors and alliterations flowing in such a seamless manner as always! This poem can resonate with many that are broken hearted, and i think many have been there atleast once, as life is a never-ending journey of changes the only thing constant is change but somethings remain. And i really love the lines “A butterfly romance, becoming more fragile over time.” Time can be cruel! “ so all that's left behind is an imprisoned moon, clouded in a dark hymn sky.” i love imprisoned moon! Thats deep! Pleasure always reading your work and thank you for supporting my contest! Congratulations on your win!

It's never too late to love when you still have the chance and always worth it to try. This is so sad yet beautiful... sometimes ppl lose contact due to miscommunication or misconception and then later realize when they're alone to see the truth. Love this write.

There is something magical in the way you use metaphors.: I especially liked blind vision, a pebble in a dirty puddle, a dark hymn sky and last but not least, a waterfall of sorrows.

Some of your phrases will touch wounded hearts. When in love, there are pictures that were never taken with a camera that will remain in our mind. They will never fade from memory. A butterfly romance is fragile and none the less real for having a short life span of existence. The Harry Styles video perfectly exemplifies your last verse. Excellently written.
