Eyes of Yesterday

You think you know me, you've loved me for so long. But you don't know me as I am today. When you first loved me, you watched me and learned what I did; you listened to me and learned what I thought; and you came to know me. You forgot, though, that I kept doing and I kept thinking, and today, I'm different with new parts of me waiting for you to discover. I know you love me still, but you don't know me as I am today because you see me with eyes of yesterday. Submitted 4 Sept 16

A jewel of wisdom wrapped in elegant language of mellow understanding, Beverly. Simply beautiful, dear. Such a charming and enticing title too. Loved this. May love light your path always.

Thank you Darren. I find lines in others' poems that stand out like jewels too. So glad you like that line, and the poem too. Beverly

Indeed, Beverly, how many from our past have we caught up with years later, only to find our rose tinted glasses have no lenses anymore? A lovely little write. Viv x

Thank you Viv. A class reunion comes to mind. People we thought we knew aren't the same people any more, but...neither are we. Beverly

It has a nice flow to it. It brings up awareness of parenting. I believe involved, observant parents know the character and interests of their children more than anyone. Those that don't however, haven't been paying enough attention, and those children who grow up to move away and find themselves can't possibly expect their parents to know their new life if they don't communicate with them.

Steve, I hadn't thought of parenting but I think you're so right. Thank you for the insight. Beverly
