Except, In a Memory
There are those moments
those times when you know
with certainty
that they are to be
be cherished
It could be an obvious one,
a wedding or another of life's milestones
yet, there are some moments so simple
and just so perfect that you say to yourself,
I want to hold on to this
I must savor this minute, this second,
when troubles seem a million miles way
and everything fits
it's all the way it should be
but time is elusive
I am remembering a sunny afternoon
cradled by a gentle breeze,
sparkling pool, tropical promises
and surrounded by the love of friends
No health issues, no mortgage payments
just love and the perplexing problem
of just what to have for dinner
I knew that I should find a way
to keep this day, to never let it end
but how can you hold onto something
that can’t be held
except in a memory
at least, there’s that
