Everything But
She made sure her had children the best of everything,
He even gave his workers a share in the business,
They were model neighbors,
All were repaid in unkindness and smirks for their trouble,
And not one could understand why this happened to them,
After all they had done to be a good person,
And their sense of the injustice of it all was only increased,
When the couple down the street,
The business owner who only paid the going rate,
And the neighbors who were seldom free to talk,
Were seen too often for their liking, having a laugh,
Or singing a song,
With their children,
The people who worked for them,
And the neighbors with whom they seldom talked.
Pity those who think life such a solemn affair,
That there is no place for a laugh or a song or two,
To make the journey, no matter how arduous,
Seem, some kind of wonderful.
