Evasion
We came down from an evening
hill walk
made coffee
on the two ring cabin stove.
She said she was weary.
I said I was weary.
Wearily we sat there in silence
a strange discontent creeping
across the floor rugs
as the sun began to sink.
“Is it too late to drive home” you asked.
I thought about the long drive in the dark.
“No” I replied thickly.
When two drive into tomorrow
you never know what unspoken words
are left behind.
