Escape the Darkness

in the darkness
one can't see the shadows
falling down around them
but can feel the chill
as it rises in the air
sweeping over them

with misty eyes
even these skies cry
as the clouds of fear
hide glimmers of hope

it's times like this
where the darkest hours reign
that i miss you most
and long to feel your touch
comfort the child within me
as well as the adult i've become

alone i stand
a wreath of emotions
gather within my mind
where my thoughts
fall silent only to prayer

I'm confined
outside of dreams
as this nightmare
becomes reality

now only the crow
can visit your grave
as he flies
in and out
of the darkness
life has become

So haunting and melancholy - that first stanza, so evocative of despair, a poignant ode to loss-

A beautiful and thoughtful peek into the darkness here Sandra. Loved the line "comfort the child within me / as well as the adult i've become", as well as your use of crows, shadows, clouds, and chill to describe the loneliness. Another gem ~ Hugs/John

Thank you so much Jennifer... scary times we are living in, sometimes an escape to easier times would be nice... sometimes those we want or need comfort from are not around... hugs and blessings my friend

A very touching piece Sandra. When we lose someone very close to us sometimes we feel so alone in the world. That's when we need to draw close to The Lord. He will send His Holy Spirit to guide and comfort us in our hour of need. God Bless, JB

Profoundly penned, my friend -- 'the child within me as well as the adult I've become'...'a wreath of my emotions'... 'of the darkness life has become' -- so many memorable lines. This poem just aches emotion. Superb penning! Bravo! :) Gershon

thank you so much Gershon...I made a wreath for my father for Easter...it sits in my closet...I wish I could place it but I cannot... we are not allowed to leave the house...it's times like these, the darkest moments in life that you miss the loved ones lost the most... hugs and blessings!

Thank you Chris...I made my father a wreath before the virus hit...I was waiting till closer to Easter to place it but it's not looking like I will be able to place it … sometimes you just wish those lost can come and comfort you at times like these... hugs
