Equal Opportunity Victim

I’m afraid that I’m often no more than a victim For rarely am I a clear victor in life, With an outlook that’s often more morbid than cheery, I draw bad results as if courting a wife! Could it be that there's gain that I'm finding in losing? For where are the folks who are jealous of me, Am I safe would you say then from wrath of back stabbers, Or chosen because I'm a weak enemy! Is there something I’d lose by surrender to winning? Might planning, some work, change the course of events? Which is more likely true - losers make better lovers Or Love finds the people with clearest intents? Say your friends disappear when you come into money, Or camp at your house when you're suddenly flush, Either way, it would seem you must look at your prospects, Best friends aren’t just ones you presume at first blush! Do you feel you’re not worthy to be that successful? Or think that more money would bring you more stress? Tell yourself that your value is only with children? Pretend you don't care when your friend buys that dress? I’m still waiting to see what I’ll do when I grow up, I’m seventy-four and my time’s getting short, Could be losing‘s bad habit that’s taken control now, But whatever happens, the ball’s in my court!
