Enjoyment

Experience tells me that some people put enjoyment on hold, Put it in their pocket for when they grow old, And appear to others as quite cold. I like to think of enjoyment as habit forming, And worn as a cloak in the morning and evening, It is perfect for shielding from all weathering. As a cloak it, it sends a message to friends and family, That makes them a certainty, For invitations to Party. When kept in a pocket for later, Only a Mother and Father, Will know it is there. If you know someone whose pocket could be hiding, What they could be using, instead of hoarding, Make your conversations more probing.

Very kind of you to say so Howard. We all lead busy lives and it can be hard to take extra time to give invites to people who at first glance don't seem to enjoy life, but sometimes first impressions can be wrong, if you bite the bullet and get feedback after the event from them that they had a good time. I can occasionally suffer fools but gladly is a stretch as Sainthood in this life will elude me in this life for sure. Thanks again and I have no doubt enjoyment will be on the agenda for you this Christmas despite what you will have endured due to Covid.

Hi David, I like this one, we all have had or currently have cloaks we become prisoners of. And liberating these folks is beautiful. Happy Christmas to you across the ditch, I don't write much anymore, but enjoy discovering gems. Keep writing, your friend Lewis.

Thanks Lewis. Our eldest daughter and her partner just bought a house in our street, so Christmas here has already started. I have toyed with how to present the guts of this poem for a while. I have known a few people over the years who don't always appear to enjoy things in life but when you get to know them your opinion changes. happy Christmas to you too. David. ps we did a good demolition job on West Indian Cricket team., so hopefully we will be competitive next time we play Australia.

Thank you. I think we are making it to too easy for people to opt out of so much in life. Often we don't know if we like something until we have tried it. As an early childhood teacher, parent and now grandparent you have to be inventive in getting children to at least try. Not always easy but rewards make it worthwhile. Trust I think plays big part. All the best David in NZ
