Go out now, children, while you can and play.
The time to romp and frolic will not last.
Drink Kool-Aid under shade trees while you may.

Sing simple songs of childhood; dance and sway.
Tomorrow might be glum and overcast.
School's starting soon. Enjoy this perfect day!

This is what we actually DID in OUR time. Today, you'd have to throw them out of the house to make them do this. haha. (and they would demand pop over kool-aid)

Janice, this is a thoroughly enjoyable poem. The imagery is very well chosen and underpins its theme of childhood days which we are duty bound to cherish. Seamless flow and rhythm sustained. Wonderful Howard

Janice, we hope the days after will allow for some fun. It’s not always easy to achieve. I felt that much of my time in school was a prison term. Thank goodness I learned it’s possible to have fun as an adult in ways that do not negatively impinge on others. Your poem provides a lot to think about. Smiles!!

Duke, thank you so much for this deep look into the poem. Some kids nowadays are so attached to their phones and indoor games that they don't want to go outside. At the same time their PARENTS are~~~on their phones! Janice
