Man in his stupidity will one day be the cause of his own destruction

A news flash said there is no tomorrow And it fills me with a feeling of dread A pity that more time we can't borrow This time tomorrow we will be all dead. A huge comet has decided our fate Our family gather to say farewell We all reflect on our lives as we wait For mans stupidity has unleashed hell. Scientists tried to change the orbit Of this giant comet of rock and ice Missiles sent into space failed to stop it Also chose to ignore expert’s advice. Soon humankind will no longer exist All vaporised in a flash of white mist.

You know Tom, maybe it's my old age and my own ever near death of my corporeal existence, but I've been thinking more and more about the end of the world as well, only we will do it to ourselves-- it would only take about 100 [out of 17,000] nukes going off to release enough radiation to kill all life above ground. I say this as it appears we have developed the power of a god without the wisdom of a god. [See Nevil Shute's novel 'On The Beach'.]

I totally agree LJ, I just hope I'm gone when that happens, I read once what they used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki is tiny compared to what they have now, it just takes one idiot to unleash hell on us all.Like your last line the power of a god without the wisdom, how true for man is one stupid creature. Tom

Great imagination. I've always heard from the older generation that we would destroy ourselves from within if we were destroyed and I tend to agree... EVERYONE NEEDS GOD above all else. That would change the world as we know it. Happy Writing and many blessings.

A chilling entry that made me think of the ordeal we all went through here in Hawaii when the powers that be made a mistake and announced " a rocket was coming in from Korea, this is not a drill!" How could anyone make that kind of mistake! Congratulations on your win Tom. xxoo

Thanks Lu Loo, the way mankind interferes with the order of things any disaster will be down to him and not some freak of nature. Tom

You pose a frightening scenario, Tom. Even if we knew there was a huge comet headed toward us, there would be little we could do to protect ourselves. Love your "sci-fi" approach. Congratulations on your placement in S.O.'s contest! Hugs, carolyn

An amazing poem Tom, what if there was no more tomorrow , what a frightful thought. I remember a film with Nicholas Cage some time ago, when the end of the world is imminent - aliens came for his son and a little girl, and then he went to his parents where they lived the last moments of their lives together. Well penned my friend, Blessings Jennifer.

Thanks Jennifer, it is a frigtening thought for sure, if you knew it was going to happen you'd gather your family and just wait for it to happen, it would only take a crackpot to unleash hell on all mankind. Tom

Tom , a second Comnent., do excuse me? Later today I made the grave error of putting on the LINK channel, and I at once thought of you. Talk about doom. They should rename it. DOOM-)) Not to worry, Maiden Pangiota is coming to save you on her white Unicorn! The forces for good will defeat darkness!' Maiden Panagiota
