Ego

Ego-mind an instrument for our use,
that helps us to navigate this terrain
but it is from our heart where bliss does ooze,
so we view ego cravings with disdain,
slowing down thought, that mind we may retrain.
With thoughts rested, wayward ego thins out
and we rest in awareness free from doubt,
humming a verse, one with the universe,
viewing life as a dream going about,
divine aligned with no need to rehearse.

We have the common phases like, slow down and smell the roses, or from the Bible, " Be still and know that I Am God". When I slow down and quieten my mind, the peace is so overwhelming I want to just hold on to the presence I feel as long as I can. To be in the "Spirit" is the real life we can experience, the illusion is earthly world of physical wants and desires. Meaningful and important poetry, my friend. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

Half the battle is won, if our default orientation becomes thought rested stillness, as awareness self-aware, poised in agendaless vibrance.

I liked these two lines: slowing down thought, that mind we may retrain. With thoughts rested, wayward ego thins out…Some only pretend to be humble and magnanimous for their gain…learning self-control & humilitu so important. What we gain is so much greater! Hugs

Thank you, Kim. The Upanishads are rich with words of ancient wisdom handed down through the ages. The original texts were in Sanskrit but fortunately we now have English translations by contemporary masters.
