A total lack of understanding about biology, evolution, and life brings us to this:

Alabama's court has gone wild Their judge has dementia not mild What's their new ruling For Petri dish cooling? The fertilized egg is a child

Great job highlighting this issue! I admire that you can do limericks I can not. This one is important and a great focus on a really important legal matter. I think it is ridiculous to call an egg a human!

Karen, if you can write a song, I am almost certain you could write limericks if you want to. I only chose them because they are short and don't take too much time to read and write. I don't have the patience or stamina for really long things. I really admire some of the long pieces poets post, but I like being to the point!

You talk about going to the extreme! Although in today's world it seems to be the theme. If enough get on board it will soon be a meme. But then it took the extreme for man to redeem. STOP! Okay. Well written limerick with thought-provoking content.

Duke my friend you should create your own encyclopaedia of limericks as you write so many on so many different subjects.. As always it effectively combines wit, satire, and social commentary to highlight a contentious legal issue and provoke thought and discussion. It offers a lighthearted yet incisive take on a complex and divisive topic, inviting readers to consider the implications of the court's ruling in Alabama...

Silent One, I think you understand what I am trying to do. It is exactly that--to promote thought and discussion. I also try to point out some things that seem ridiculous, but that so many of us seem to go along with. The inspiration is a bit of annoyance about all of it and also just trying to laugh about it all. You are a very thoughtful inciteful poet!

This is what happens when the orchestra is in tune but the lone conductor (judge) is sadly out of sync. Love the limerick. Cheers - Gary

Thanks Gary. I wonder if the judge and members of the court realize that. It has probably garnered world-wide attention and makes us look crazy to the rest of the world.

I agree--a total lack of understanding. When they claim to know better than a mother or a doctor--we know they are vacant souls. Well done, Duke.

Thanks Vijay. Yes, the woman and her doctor should make the decisions regarding reproductive health. This particular misguided ruling is based on ignorance by those wishing to exercise control over that relationship.

That's a funny limerick. These kind of rulings are confusing to me and I end up cutting them down the middle. Ha ha

Hilda, you have a lot of good company. It's a bit strange and had some unwanted results that may end up being corrected going forward.

Dear Duke, Your poem, is a sharp and thought-provoking commentary on the complexities of legal and ethical debates surrounding reproductive rights. Through your clever wordplay and biting wit, you highlight the absurdities and contradictions that often pervade such discussions. Your poem challenges us to confront uncomfortable truths and interrogate the foundations of our beliefs and laws. Thank you for fearlessly tackling such important and timely issues through your poetry. Your voice is a vital contribution to the ongoing dialogue surrounding reproductive freedom and social justice. - Blessings, Daniel

Daniel, this comment reflects the generosity of your spirit. I notice that you are very understanding of everyone and all the different views and thoughts different poets submit for us to read. While many things cause some discomfort, I have decided that I must be true to my own beliefs and style of writing and thought. You are very kind to be accepting of that and I appreciate the time and effort you make to leave such wonderful comments.

You sure fit, with poetic skill, some hard boiled politics into this limerick. I wonder what it costs to spread dementia to this joker. Probably price is no object.

Thanks David. My daughter eggs me on and suggested a few topics. I think this court ruling is worthy of some kind of ridicule. It is so clearly without any foundation in science let alone common sense.

Duke, this is a timely limerick about life. When we consider the number of sperm counts, we might be surprised to learn that a man can release 200 to 300 million sperm in a single ejaculation. A baby's growth begins with fertilization and proceeds through several stages, from a fertilized egg to a blastocyst, an embryo, and finally a fetus. We know that fertilization does not always result in the formation of an embryo. Then If a frozen box falls, it implies the demise of countless babies.

Thanks for this comment SP. Your knowledge of mammalian reproduction means you pass the bio quiz! We know that death in utero occurs all the time. It often means that a different egg and sperm end up in development. Mistakenly killing embryos meant for implantation is unfortunate for those involved and hopefully they will have an opportunity to reproduce.
