Easter Church Ladies

So polite. Wearing gloves. And hats. Hair in Easter colors. Church ladies; prissy, smiling, crackling in their perfumes. Flowered dresses, sitting primly on the hard wooden pews, Singing in loud overtones songs they have known for decades. Smiling at the Easter bonnets, and the tiny white lace gloves Worn only by them and the toddlers now, everyone else in Blue jeans, plaids, regular street clothes, Sunday best no longer applies Still they come, in their lavender hair, wearing their Bibles In sheaves and satchels, letting their slips hang a bit in back. Not as lively as before, but still with sparks they throw the Way of Old Bill, the only bachelor over eighty, the reason some still come.

First, Care, you are correct: My poem about the hour-glass came to me first with the last line. Are you psychic? It took at least six attempts to get it right, however. Persistenace pays off. As for Easter I don't celebrate it: one percent "Christian", 99 percent pagan. / M

They have in a way, Harry, but church seems pretty much the same for the little girls and the older girls. Both kinds like to dress up.

Love your descriptions of these pastel-clad ladies (in all their lavender-haired glory)!! I remember women like this at my old congregation. Priceless write, my friend (and a FAV for me)! ;D

Hahahahaha I am laughing my lavender hair off right now! Which is too bad as it matched my lavender tattoo.

Caren, it's a wonder to me to see women of any age dress like a lady anymore. I don't think they come to their Chuches to flirt with some old dude.what for? I don't think God counts in most lives at any age. UNLESS in case of illness. Haven't seen white gloves or hats for eons. Just bad hair, leggings and hoodies. Attractive? Hardly, Sunshine is right about Europe. Panagiota Romios

Hey, Patti, I like your idea. About them NOT coming to church to flirt. It makes way for a terrific other poem. Do you mind if I steal it? You know me....

Aha! I know this is pretty common in the US too; there is a joke that many families do not miss Christmas Eve or Easter, but all the other days.
