Early Life

Early Life Of Miracle man July 18, 2020 Today I’m remembering the old times when phones were party line, (if you had one) and life was simpler. When stores weren’t open on Sunday and no one worked. It was church, family time, and people visited. Adult entertainment then was an old Philco radio, which was huge, (a piece of furniture) popping corn, card games, and dominoes. Boys flew kites, played marbles, “doogies” had bean flips, and rolled a ten inch metal ring from a wagon hub with a flattened Prince Albert can nailed to the end of a stick. These were long before tech devices ushered in couch potatoes. When school cafeterias didn’t exist in our town, and school lunch was a sandwich wrapped in the wax paper that had once been a bread sack. When margarine came in two parts, the white block of grease, and the yellow powder that was mixed with it by hand. This was long before Country Crock. When Mom heated water, done laundry with a tub and rub board, wrung by hand and dried on a clothes line. Ironing was done with a sad iron which was heated on the stove. In the summer My brother and I, slept on a pallet under a weeping willow in the back yard because it was cooler than in the house. This was before our window water cooler came along. The ice man made deliveries once a week for our ice box, size of chunk depended on sign attached to our screen door. From our big garden all preserving was done by canning, and washing fruit jars was torment to a kid. Thinking back, from where I was to what I have today, I’ve been blessed and technology “ain’t” been too bad. I’m sitting pretty.
